Defying the need for trends and categorised styles, XINGYUAN XU’s SS18 collection L’Éstranger, named after Albert Camus’ novel, revolves around “the freedom of being a stranger.” With design process as the core, the collection is built on experimentation and visual disturbances within the parameters and parallels between colours, layers, lines and structures. Standing separate from the wearer’s past experiences, it focuses solely on the present, the now. The collection speaks of freedom and a multi-dimensional world where meaning is unbounded.

Xingyuan Xu graduated from Parsons The New School for Design in 2016 and went on to explore abstract forms and meanings via the medium of clothing, her interest laying in the visual standalone aspects as the forefront of her collections. With an impressive array of connections and features — spanning Photo Vogue, WWD and Risk Magazine — the designer continues to explore the unknown by extinguishing all preconceived notions and dallying with the unfamiliar and unlabelled. Her SS18 lookbook features rosy tints, apple-blossoms, fine lines and manifesting hands.
