peninsula istanbul | the pen 1 boatcruise

Istanbul’s skyline is famous, but it’s the city’s waterways that hold its true magic. This summer, The Peninsula Istanbul gives guests a new way to experience them: PEN 1, a 16-metre mahogany motor yacht built for seamless transfers and private cruises along the Bosphorus.

Commissioned from the renowned Turkish naval architect Tanju Kalaycıoğlu, PEN 1 was brought to life by SuMarine’s master boatbuilders. This luxurious yacht seamlessly combines maritime tradition with understated elegance, featuring teak decks beneathfoot, polished stainless-steel detailing, and a deep green hull that harmonises with the hotel’s signature palette. Inside, it’s as considered as The Peninsula itself, with space for up to 16 passengers and an atmosphere that turns travel into a pleasure rather than a necessity.

Operated by an expert captain and crew, PEN 1 departs directly from The Peninsula’s private dock at Galataport, carrying guests across to Üsküdar or along the Golden Horn with none of the city’s traffic — only uninterrupted views of the Bosphorus.

“Istanbul is a city best seen from the water,” says Jonathan Crook, Managing Director of The Peninsula Istanbul. “Aboard PEN 1, guests of The Peninsula Istanbul can discover the buzzing metropolis in style, with sweeping views of both continents and in complete serenity, all with the impeccable hospitality they have come to expect.”

The Peninsula Istanbul sits right on the Bosphorus, tucked among manicured gardens in the glittering new Galataport development. Four elegant waterfront buildings house 177 rooms and suites, many with balconies and terraces that practically beg you to linger over the view of passing ferries. Step outside and you’re moments away from the Galata Tower, Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque; stay in and you’ll find GALLADA, chef Fatih Tutak’s Turkish-Asian playground, a spa with hammams and marble columns, and pools indoors and out — plus a private dock if you’d rather arrive in style with the PEN 1 experience.

Speaking of arrivals, guests landing at Istanbul Airport are driven to the Golden Horn, while those from Sabiha Gökçen are taken to Üsküdar, with luggage sent ahead to the hotel. Aboard PEN 1, a Guest Experience Executive welcomes passengers with champagne, setting the tone for the stay to come.

Beyond transfers, the yacht is available for private charters — whether for a sunset sail, a celebration, or a slow crossing between Europe and Asia as the city’s minarets catch the last light.
