An intergalactic beauty in a warehouse full of cloaked treasures – the new key visual for the international fashion engagement Spring/Summer 2013 by Mercedes-Benz tells an enchanting story with a hint of science fiction. Fashion photography icon Mario Testino explains the concept as follows: “I decided to create a picture that tells a story of the most sought after objects and design that stay in history and are preserved forever; with Joan Smalls – for this campaign made up to be like some character from the future – taking the CLS Shooting Brake with her into the unknown and leaving everything else behind.”

The key visual’s motto “Form follows perfection” does not only hint at the sculptural contours of the new four-door coupé. That perfection is also reflected in super-model Joan Smalls’ lithe physique. Her spiked Mohawk, the golden studded bracelet and the athletic catsuit radiate an energetic aura and harmonize ideally with the CLS Shooting Brake’s modern look.

When asked about the cooperation with Mario Testino, the Puerto Rican top model replies: “I’ve worked with Mario Testino before and it’s always a pleasure. Everything from his work ethic to the way he shoots, to the way he treats people speaks to the fact that he is a true gentleman. You always know that the pictures will come out looking beautiful and iconic.” The current key visual proves her right.
