frank ockenfels 3 | introspection

Posted by & filed under art..

As part of European Month of Photography, Fotografiska Berlin welcomes you into the creative world of Frank Ockenfels 3 and his forthcoming exhibition, Introspection. On view from January 30, Introspection delves into the artist’s journey, presenting his career through a series of interconnected sections, unified by his journals. What began as simple notes scribbled onto Polaroids—used to document lighting setups and plan upcoming shoots—morphed into a deeply personal medium. These journals became a space to record conversations with his subjects, explore creative ideas, work through artistic influences, and map his personal and professional evolution.  The exhibition blends new photographic works with unconventional, mixed-media creations where photography is no longer the primary focus. Skateboards, newspapers, and scrap metal become unconventional canvases for Ockenfels’s expressive use of paint, pen, and brush. Through his intentionally raw and experimental manipulation of images, portraits of others are transformed into mirrors of his own identity, offering a glimpse into his inner world and creative psyche. To recognise the preview and opening of the exhibit in Berlin, Schön! chats with Frank Ockenfels 3 about his process, Introspection, and more.  Your creative process merges photography with journaling, drawing, and collage. How do you decide which medium best expresses a particular… Read more »

dior ss 2025 haute couture show | live from paris

Posted by & filed under news.

In one of the most anticipated events all year, Dior’s latest Haute Couture collection for the Spring/Summer 2025 season is occurring live from Paris today, 27th January, at 3:00 PM CET. Maria Grazia Chiuri is gearing up to showcase the collection which will look at “the moment of transition between childhood and adulthood and how this moment is represented in a transformation of what we wear.” Ahead of the event, the Maison teased a possible inspiration behind the collection: Dorothea Tanning’s iconic 1943 painting Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, pulling from Tanning’s surrealist aesthetic and enigmatic themes. To commemorate the collection and show, the House commissioned an immersive installation translated into large-scale textile panels by painter Rithika Merchant aptly titled “The Flowers We Grew,” further leaning into the period between childhood and adulthood.  Stream the show live from Paris on Monday, January 27, at 3:00 PM CET on Schön!

Ahead of this year’s Igloofest happening in Montreal from the 16th of January until 8th of February, Schön! hand-selected three artists to curate their own special playlists ahead of the event. First up? Germany’s very own Yulia Niko. Niko has firmly established herself as a key figure in the global electronic music scene, earning recognition through her collaborations with influential labels like Crosstown Rebels and Watergate since starting her journey at just 15 years of age. Since then, she’s been dedicated to leaning into her love of music. Now a globally celebrated artist with a packed tour schedule and a growing catalog of highly acclaimed releases, she debuted her first album, TWINSOUL, last year and is now ready to grace the stage at the festival. Hey, what are you up to right now? Hey there, thanks for having me! Right now, I am on the train to the airport. Somehow I ended up living in a small town in the south of Germany and spent about 2 hours getting to the airport. Sounds fine, but most of the time, German trains are late or cancelled. I guess many people have no idea about the number of problems artists deal with being… Read more »

As Igloofest returns to Montreal from January 16 to February 8, Schön! has invited three standout artists to create exclusive playlists in anticipation of the event. Hailing from Montreal is Canadian drag performer and DJ Sisi Superstar, best known for competing on Season 4 of Canada’s Drag Race in 2023, where she showcased her vibrant personality and talent. Sisi, who is supporting legend Princess Superstar on the Vidéotron stage for the final night of the festival, is celebrated for her unique sense of style, bold performances, and contributions to Montreal’s drag and queer nightlife scenes. Hey, what are you up to right now? Watching my Sailor Moon DVD my bestie just got me in my drag room with a cup of lemon, ginger and honey tea. Ready to spill!  If someone asked you what your origin story was, how would you describe it? It’s seriously way too complex, crazy and long. I would show them “Naughty Girl” by Chris Lilley on YouTube! Please, if you are reading this, watch it. Describe your style in 3 words. Authentic, emo, glam. Schön! alive | 1 | mindfulness | out now

Posted by & filed under alive.

I was looking over the pristine, snow-covered Alps in Lech am Arlberg. It was at that moment – struck by a sense of calm and reflection – that the idea for Schön! alive came to me. I wanted to create a magazine that moves beyond the surface, that goes deeper into the minds, stories and insights of the individuals who are shaping how we live and connect with the world. For years, Schön! has celebrated images – the artistry of fashion, the drama of style. With Schön! alive, my team and I invite you on a journey beyond the visible, exploring the stories, philosophies and creative souls shaping the way we live, think and feel. This first issue focuses on mindfulness – an exploration of how intentionality can transform our everyday reality. On the Croatian island of Hvar, we visit the Maslina Resort near the 2,400-year-old town of Stari Grad which epitomises the philosophy of ‘mindful luxury’. In Tuscany, the serene Castelfalfi Resort offers a unique escape where guests can connect with nature and history. In Bonaire, photographer Stephanie Pistel captures the unspoilt magic of the Caribbean Island. Adventure lovers will find inspiration in the story of BMW Motorrad riders… Read more »

among women

Posted by & filed under fashion.

Drawing inspiration from Chizuko Ueno’s Misogyny, this Schön! editorial explores how, in a patriarchal society, misogyny is not only perpetuated by men toward women but also internalized by women themselves. This dynamic becomes particularly pronounced in the modern workplace, where self-loathing can manifest outwardly as conflict with other women. In this editorial, photographer Sven Liu seeks to shed light on the tensions and self-repression experienced by working women, encouraging reflection on how to break free from the limitations imposed by patriarchal systems. Centring on two female characters: a high-ranking, detached, and cold boss, and a newly hired, inexperienced junior employee, Liu captures exaggerated poses, makeup, and styling to illustrate the complexity of their relationship.  photography. isaac

Isaac is a fragmented narrative told through the voices of four characters and the observant perspective of Isaac, a young man captivated by scars and bodily marks. Structured episodically, each character reveals their personal story, weaving a vivid portrait of fictional figures born from imagination. Born from a collaboration between director of photography Pablo Garrido Carreras, filmmaker Serjiososo, and fashion photographer Majo Válido, the film centers around portraits of imagined characters, presenting them as though they were individuals encountered in everyday life and social settings in Madrid. Shot in black and white on 16 mm film using a Bolex camera during the springtime, the work explores the intersection of portraiture, fashion, and fiction all while crafting characters and capturing their essence in a seamless blend of image and voice.  This Schön! visual has been produced by direction. “Growing up, I spent most of my teenage years splitting my time between Kreuzberg and Potsdam,” explains photographer Tim Grupp when asked about the inspiration behind his Schön! editorial. “Long train rides that would bring me to either destination. Home was loud and violent so we spent most of our time getting into trouble outside. That train ride was the time when everything went silent. And that train, that silence, was what took him. From redefining TikTok comedy to helming his own television series, Made for TV, which is now streaming on The Roku Channel, Martinez-Reid seamlessly bridges the digital and traditional media landscapes. Speaking to Schön! for this interview, he delves into the genre-bending world of his show, his evolution from viral content creator to executive producer, and the powerful role humour plays in sparking important conversations. Congratulations on Made for TV! The show takes viewers on a journey through various genres. What was the most surprising thing you learned about yourself while navigating these different television worlds? I think what surprised me the most was how much taking on these different genres challenged my confidence. This show was born out of the blind confidence I had, which my showrunner quickly noticed. We’d talk about various genres and the shows we watched within them, and I would often say, “This seems so easy—like, it can’t be that hard to be on a cooking show or Drag Race.” I think many of us watch reality TV with a similar mentality, assuming it’s easy… Read more »

Jon Chu’s film adaptation of the musical Wicked has been out in theatres for nearly three weeks and has broken countless records, including the highest-grossing Broadway musical movie at the box office, inching towards the $500 million mark. Starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, the casting contains a web of invisible strings between the actors and their characters. It’s no secret that both Ariana and Cynthia were huge fans of the musical and worked their entire lives to fill these roles, but one lesser-known arc is the invisible string from the world of Oz that belongs to Ethan Slater who was undoubtedly destined to be a part of this world.  Ethan’s first introduction to Oz was just him trying to please his older sister, who had landed the starring role in their local production of The Wizard of Oz and needed someone to play her beloved pup, Toto. A few years later, he became one of the lucky ones to say he witnessed Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel in the original cast of Wicked. In sixth grade, he played the wizard in his middle school production of The Wizard of Oz. But before finally landing the… Read more »

Jingjing Jia, a Chinese stylist and creative director, is redefining the fashion landscape with her seamless fusion of avant-garde aesthetics and timeless elegance. With an innovative approach that merges bold creativity with refined sophistication, Jia crafts fashion narratives that transcend traditional boundaries between art and storytelling, as depicted in her editorial titled “Beneath the Surface.”  “The inspiration for “Beneath the Surface” came from a desire to explore how fashion and creativity can reveal layers of identity that often remain unseen,” Jia states to Schön!. “I wanted to challenge the idea of clothing and styling as merely decorative, instead using them as tools to express deeper emotions and narratives.” The imagery focuses on the intricate and intimate relationship between our personal identities and how we incorporate our clothes into that — using tights, body painting, and projections. By using the body as a dynamic canvas, “Beneath the Surface” reinterprets beauty, challenging the distinctions between outer appearance and inner essence.  Schön! chats with Jingjing Jia about her work as a creative director, the inspiration and motivation behind “Beneath the Surface,” and more.  You seamlessly blend avant-garde aesthetics with timeless elegance. Which designers or artists have influenced your unique style the most? I believe… Read more »

This fashion editorial comes straight from the streets of Brooklyn & Queens, connecting with nostalgic American culture. Set in classic American locations such as diners, gas stations, and vintage cars, it showcases how modern fashion can harmonize with these retro environments while questioning the extent to which America is truly changing. Schön! 47 | alison oliver wearing LOEWE

Posted by & filed under beauty, culture, fashion.

Alison Oliver is captivating on and off screen, transforming herself into characters that are so varied she can’t be known for just one thing. She chats with us for her Schön! 47 cover story while radiating in LOEWE to discuss her upcoming film The Order, a historical true crime thriller set in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. It’s one of the many intense roles she has under her belt and when speaking with her, you almost expect star quality to radiate from every fibre of her being. While it does, you also get the sense that she’s just like the rest of us.  The film, directed by Justin Kurzel and based on the book The Silent Brotherhood by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt, follows lone FBI agent Terry Husk (Jude Law) as he seeks to take the group down. She stars as Debbie Matthews, wife to Bob Matthews (played by Nicholas Hoult), the leader of an American neo-Nazi terrorist group. “What scared me about the role was playing a person inside of that world – a person that I didn’t actually understand on the page, a person I felt quite angry with – and trying to understand why people live these lives,”… Read more »

interview | austin north

Outer Banks star Austin North credits his sister and a poster in a Georgia mall of Dylan Sprouse’s face as the reason he has a career in acting. North was your typical sports-loving boy when his sibling unknowingly signed him up for an acting showcase that would put him in the room with Hollywood executives and would ultimately lead him to landing a leading role in Disney Channel’s I Didn’t Do It.  Coming off of his two-year stint on Disney Channel, you’d imagine that he’d be able to quickly land a role based on that credit alone – however, North hit a bit of a speed bump that led him to launch a marketing company, running social media accounts for a handful of companies while still regularly auditioning for anyone that would see him. Years went by with no luck, and just as he was ready to call it quits, he got the call that would change the trajectory of his career forever– a main role in Netflix’s Outer Banks, one of Netflix’s most successful and longest-running original series to date. North plays Topper Thornton, one of the more polarizing characters on the show that fans love to hate. But… Read more »

interview | kathryn gallagher

Kathryn Gallagher is in flux. When speaking with the 31-year-old actress, singer, and songwriter, it’s clear that change is something she leans into rather than shies away from. For her, change brings newness — something that can be terrifying but also invigorating, forcing her to enter every project, role, and chapter of her life with a brand-new mindset. It’s that energy that has carried Gallagher from project to project, particularly with her film debut in Woman of the Hour. The crime thriller film, which is directed by and stars Anna Kendrick, is set in 1970s Los Angeles and interweaves the stories of the women who were killed by a serial killer. While it doesn’t entirely fall under the true crime genre, it does what so many similar media fail to do which is to put the victims and survivors at the heart of the story. Rather than focusing on the serial killer, Kendrick opts to show the ripple effect of what happens when women are not believed. Naturally, Gallagher shines as Charlie, a flight attendant who is beginning a new chapter of her life. It’s a role and film that clearly matters deeply to Gallagher, especially given the current political… Read more »

With devilishly compelling roles in Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle & Erik Menendez Story and Grotesquerie, actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez has proven that he is far from faint-hearted. Opening up with Schön! while wearing Dior Men, Fursac and Azature for his #AllAboutArt cover story, he explains how he’s drawn to inscrutable personalities that subvert all audience expectations through the many masks that they wear. Chavez hopes the roles of Lyle Menendez and Father Charlie remain a mystery to him decades from now. While both characters are equally hellish, albeit in their own unique ways, the actor searches deep within himself to find a way to make these monsters a little bit more human. “As an actor, you are obligated toward the drama of the script,” he states. “There are so many different creative individuals who are exercising their artistic work and voice in this project. So, your research and interpretation are in constant negotiation and conversation with the many other great artistic voices.” Taking on the role of Lyle Menendez in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters: The Lyle & Erik Menendez Story, Chavez was first attracted to the turmoil hidden beneath the surface of a glamorous Beverly Hills family. Schön! 47 | carl giacomello wearing Dior Men

Posted by & filed under culture, fashion.

When we think of art, we often imagine the sweep of a painter’s brush or the intricate chiselling of a sculptor’s hand. Still, there is an art form that requires no canvas or clay — just the human body itself. Dancing, at its core, is a language of movement, where the body becomes both the medium and the message. Unlike static forms of art, dance is dynamic and ephemeral, existing only at the moment it is performed. It’s something dancer Carl Giacomello, who wears Dior Men for his Schön! 47  digital cover, knows all too well. Giacomello’s style is a fusion of technical mastery and expressive freedom. Each performance is a testament to his ability to convey complex narratives through movement. His choreography often explores the themes of balance and tension, control and release, echoing the very dynamics of life itself. It’s a style that’s both innovative and accessible, drawing in viewers who might not traditionally engage with contemporary dance. And as Giacomello continues to push the boundaries of contemporary dance, his journey is a reminder of the power of art to connect and transform — one step, one movement, at a time. Achieng Agutu has become a beacon of self-love, confidence, and representation in the modern digital age. “It’s such a powerful statement to see someone like me in that space,” she says about being the first bald Kenyan model featured in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. “I want people to know that there is no single standard of beauty. Confidence, happiness, and health come in all shapes and sizes, from all walks of life.” It’s a mindset she embodies and wants to share with the world, too — and she’s doing just that as a host on Amazon Prime’s #INFLUENCED. Chatting with Schön!, she opens up about her journey from self-doubt to self-celebration, the importance of representation, and her vision for a more inclusive and vibrant world.  You’re celebrated as the “Confidence Queen.” What sparked your journey toward embracing self-love and fearlessness, and how did you translate that into a thriving online presence? I’d say my journey began because I never felt confident in myself before. I wasn’t happy with the way I looked, felt, or moved through the world, and that wasn’t an exciting way to live. I grew tired of feeling that way and decided to change it. In 2017, I started… Read more »

LSDXOXO – the alias of singer-songwriter, performer, DJ and Producer RJ Glasgow – is on a nomadic worldwide trajectory. When we speak to him, he’s in New York, after a whirlwind month of touring, releasing an album, fashion week marathons and shoots. Based in Berlin since 2017, Glasgow is on the point of making his next move, to a new city, with coordinates currently unknown. The Philadelphia-born artist saw his beginnings take shape in the early 2010s when he started releasing remixes via Soundcloud, before joining the cult collective GHE20GOTH1K.  His debut album, released in September, flawlessly charters his journey with his signature hybrid of dance, electronic, club and techno sounds, with a touch of pop and optimistic nihilism mixed in for good measure. LSDXOXO made a global impact with his collaborations as a producer for Kelela, remixes for Lady Gaga, PinkPantheress and Shygirl, regular appearances at Club Shygirl, a performance during FKA Twigs’ EUSEXUA tour, and more recently the soundtrack to emerging fashion favourite Luis de Javier’s first runway show.  Reflecting on his debut tour as a singer-songwriter and with a full album boosting his discography, he talks to Schön! about the fantasy of DOGMA, about sex positivity in… Read more »

Schön! 47 | jordan rondel | the caker

Posted by & filed under culture, fashion, video.

Jordan Rondel aka The Caker has brought sexy back to baking. “The concept to create a luxury cake mix at the time was completely unique,” Rondel recounts to Schön! for her #AllAboutArt Schön! 47 story. The New Zealand creative has redefined what it means to be a baker and a businesswoman in 2024. “I made a particularly great cake, and my parents encouraged me to ‘do something’ with my baking,” Rondel recalls. Back in the early days of blogging, before Instagram even existed, Rondel shared her recipes and creations online, resulting in the start of her made-to-order cake business. Soon, requests came pouring in, from catering for elite events to bespoke celebrity orders. “Timing was particularly on my side,” Rondel explains, modestly. In a city where there was little opportunity to source great cakes, she had found her niche. Although she sold the business in August, the world is opening up to Rondel and the many facets that exist within her. “I’ve always liked the idea of breaking the mould, entering other industries,” she says. “I don’t want to be typecast.” And with her current repertoire, we’re certainly not placing her in a box. Rema is spreading the sound of Afrobeats to the world. As music from across the African diaspora climbs international charts, his unique sound has made its mark on the movement. “The way that my sound has evolved is not something that can be explained. It’s something that can be heard,” he tells us for his Schön! 47 digital cover story while on tour in Australia. From his first breakout hit Dumebi in 2019 to the sensation of his 2022 song Calm Down, featuring Selena Gomez on the remix, and his latest album HEIS, which was released this summer, Rema shows no signs of slowing down.  Rema’s roots lie in Benin City, Nigeria, and inform every fibre of his artistry. “Edo State shaped me in most aspects of my being,” he explains, “from the music, manner of speech, mindset, behavioural traits, just the way I see life in general… my taste in art as well.” Nowhere is this clearer than the visual world of his HEIS era with its darker dominant energy: “It’s just me embracing my growth,” he elaborates. “It’s me feeling comfortable within this music like a snake shedding off the old skin and being comfortable in the new… Read more »

Rising fashion designer Ettore Poli wants to reinvent what it means to look and feel good. “We wear clothes almost every day, they set boundaries for our movements and express our social standing, but they also help us set our mood,” they state. “That’s why I try to design clothes that feel good on the skin, with soft, silky materials sewn in symbolic shapes, as clothes work as amulets too in a way. I always think about freedom when designing: the freedom to move around and dance, but also the freedom to look inward, to express a blurry image about who you are.” With that mindset, their forward-thinking “Baccano,” the graduate collection created and designed by Poli, was crafted.  Speaking with Schön!, Ettore Poli opens up about their latest collection, their creative process, and the deeper meanings behind their unique approach to genderless, sustainable fashion. Can you tell us more about the inspiration behind your collection BACCANO? BACCANO is my graduate collection, my first real attempt to express what fashion means to me. eden

Posted by & filed under fashion, video.

Eden is a project born from the collaboration between the digital agency Mirror, based in Florence and the slow fashion brand Cecilia Rinaldi. The idea behind the concept, written by the director Tommaso Ferrara, represents the brand’s ethics with the typical lightness of a fairy tale. The fashion designer Cecilia Rinaldi wanted to set a strong identity behind her work. The story’s main topic is the relationship between human beings and nature. The protagonist is a scientist who is trying to understand the phenomenon of a huge forest grown in a single night. This contrast between science and fantasy, rationalism and imagination, technique and inspiration is the same power that moves the artist. In Eden, these dimensions merge in a single painting where past and present, dream and reality are mixed. The only thing to do is accept the dystopia and immerse yourself in it without prejudice. The story is set in an era that doesn’t exist. The idea was to create a time suspended between past and future, or rather, to imagine a future that could not do without the past, because this is exactly how fashion itself works. When you see the title ‘pre-made cake mix,’ brands like Betty Crocker or Mr. Kipling might come to mind. Childhood memories of vividly coloured strawberry-flavoured batter resurface, along with the realization that there were few alternatives available. That was until Jordan Rondel disrupted the baking industry, introducing a collection of high-end, stylish cake kits with enticing flavours that people were eager to make. “The concept to create a luxury cake mix at the time was completely unique,” Rondel recounts to Schön!, wearing Ocean Savage for her #AllAboutArt Schön! 47  digital cover story. Despite growing up in New Zealand, Rondel’s childhood summers were spent in Paris with her grandparents, baking, eating and discovering her obsession with the kitchen. “Each weekend, we’d shop at the farmer’s market, and I’d watch [my grandparents] carefully hand pick every item,” she remembers. It was this process of witnessing simple, singular ingredients being transformed into elaborate, delectable dishes, together with the joy it brought to those who savoured the finished results, that sparked Rondel’s initial interest in cooking. “I was hooked from that moment on,” she tells us. From launching her first cookbook, opening a commercial studio and making the bold move to LA to tackle… Read more »

revelling in reykjavik | iceland airwaves 2024

Posted by & filed under alive, culture, travel..

It’s difficult not to think of Iceland as anything but otherworldly when visiting, as Schön! experienced earlier this fall after meeting Icelandic artist and actress Elín Hall. Despite the chill beginning to tighten its grip on the Nordic landscape, there isn’t a friendlier — or cozier — festival than Iceland Airwaves. For four days, Reykjavik becomes a living, breathing entity, with music flowing through its veins. It’s been 25 years since its start and its ethos still rings true: a celebration of music, culture, and community, particularly making space for Icelandic artists to shine.  What really sets Iceland Airwaves Festival, which is sponsored by IcelandAir, apart from others is the extent they use every venue — and makeshift venue — to give a home to artists. From the intimate, cozy settings of local bars to the grandeur of the city’s larger venues, every corner of Reykjavik echoes with the sounds of Airwaves. The artists, too, are running amok just like the festival attendees — while sitting at Mokka, a conversation was started by someone who I would later find out is part of rock band spacestation who I’d later see play later that night to a completely packed room at… Read more »

Today, he meets Schön! with such ease and warmth that invites deeper conversation.  Upon the interview with Adam, or Tiggs Da Author – as he’s been called for most of his life – the hyphenate picks up our Zoom call from the studio while giving a soft chuckle; the studio has become a second home. Though he’d never consider actually working from home. One might call it work-life balance, but Tiggs adds how much he enjoys the commute and not getting distracted. Unexpected, though his velvety voice, paired with the jazzy tunes, should have been an early sign of such ease.  He chats with Schön! a bit about football, a sport he played semi-professionally for some time, along with his enduring love for Manchester United. Centred and intuitive in his speech, Tiggs reflects on being known as the kid… Read more »

As soon as you step onto its grounds, its tranquillity seeps into you like the Mallorcan sun. Room-wise, there are 79 in total, all boasting floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies in every single one. The vibes are rustic, arty and stylish with bright furnishings (a very Spanish flair!), local artwork dotted about the rooms and the novelty quirk of being able to access your wood-drenched terrace from your own shower. Designed by local architect Guillermo Reynés, it’s all very bright and cheerful with clean, zen lines, stunning leafy views and quirky features. There’s a huge emphasis on wellness here. The spa is a whopping 900sqm and you can spend a whole day here with its 25-metre indoor pool, salt cave, sauna and steam room. If you can manage to drag yourself away from the sauna-to-steam room rounds, there’s a… Read more »

Schön! 47 | gavin leatherwood wearing Sandro

Posted by & filed under culture, fashion.

American actor Gavin Leatherwood is no stranger to the horror genre. The actor, who wears Sandro for his Schön! 47 digital cover, is remembered as the beloved warlock Nicholas Scratch in the Netflix drama series The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Now, 30-year-old Leatherwood speaks proudly of his latest role as Dennis in the highly anticipated Netflix film It’s What’s Inside  “Not that I would wish existential crisis on anyone,” he laughs, “but that is a driving force of this movie.” Leatherwood gives Schön! the inside scoop on his experience in the film, why nobody (figuratively and literally) is safe in it, and why its release is timely within our social media-obsessed society. Waiting for the arrival of It’s What’s Inside has left Leatherwood feeling both anticipation and “delayed gratification”, given that it was filmed back in 2022. Recalling the inception of the project, he shares, “When the director reached out and I looked at the pitch deck, I thought it was very f*cking cool.” Despite undergoing multiple readings because of the confusion felt by the characters, Leatherwood was attracted to the project. As we continue to discuss the movie, Leatherwood continues to turn it inside out. Not only does each… Read more »

interview | cat cohen

Cat Cohen is having a pretty big year for herself. She’s made appearances in Girls5eva and Only Murders in the Building, dropped a new comedy special on Veeps, Come For Me, and now she’s releasing her debut album, OVERDRESSED. It won’t be long before Cat Cohen is a household name — or at least the name you curse as you suffer from the chronic inability to get “BLAME IT ON THE MOON” out of your head. Comedy might not be universal, but listening to this album and having the bridges and choruses of the music play on endless repeat in your head, decidedly is.  After releasing her first standup special on Netflix in 2022, it’s been a few years since we got fresh material. With both Come For Me, and OVERDRESSED, Cat proves that good things take time and these projects were both more than worth the wait. The record is extra special though. In the comedy burlesque style that she’s become known for, Cat sings about things like the desire to be a plus-one at office holiday parties, liking when men take their belts off before bed (among a lengthy list of other things including, but not limited to,… Read more »

interview | Gauhar Ali

Posted by & filed under fashion.

Gauhar Ali is making waves in the fashion industry through her namesake brand. Hailing from Italy, the designer is bringing together a harmonious blend of practicality and style, tailored for the contemporary individual who appreciates the nuances of fashion evolution. Rooted in the philosophy of geometric patterns and inspired by both organic forms and industrial spectacles, Ali’s designs are a tribute to historical elements with specific garments that honour the past while boldly challenging conventional fashion norms, sparking meaningful conversations about design and identity. Schön! sits down with Gauhar Ali to discuss the craft of fashion design, the brand’s “Raver Chic” collection, and more. What inspired you to pursue a career in fashion design, and how has your journey been so far? Fashion has always been part of me, though maybe not in the conventional sense. Growing up as a millennial, my style journey started differently. Our parents often dressed us as they pleased, and back then, we didn’t have the same access to trends or the vast world of fashion that kids do today. The experience of occasionally wearing things that didn’t quite feel like ‘me’ actually sparked my creativity. I began experimenting, taking garments apart, and reimagining them… Read more »

Schön! 47 | rupi kaur wearing Pandora

Posted by & filed under beauty, culture, fashion.

Rupi Kaur took over the poetry world at just 21 years old when she self-published her first collection, Milk and Honey. It’s been ten years since its release and, when chatting with the glistening Kaur who wears Pandora and Rue Sophie for her Schön! 47 digital cover story, it’s clear that much has changed for the poet. “It feels so much bigger than me, because it’s meant so much to so many people,” Kaur says smiling. “It’s a book that’s changed my life.” The poetry book — a compilation of poems and unassuming line drawings — would redefine the world of poetry. So much so that Milk and Honey‘s impact on culture is still felt today and now, a decade later, Kaur has released an anniversary edition and is conducting a world book signing tour. “When I wrote it, I was trying to overcome so many challenges,” Kaur recalls. “I know that’s why my readers connect with it; they were going through those same challenges.” Working on the updated edition required Kaur to re-read her book cover to cover. “Reading it back from my 31-year-old perspective…” She pauses, searching for the words and shaking her head. “I’m in awe, because I really… Read more »

Schön! 47 | kid bookie feat. Marshall Headphones

Posted by & filed under culture, fashion, video.

“It’s fun because music is a place to practice your rebellion,” Kid Bookie explains. The MOBO-nominated artist, who wears Marshall Monitor III A.N.C. for his Schön! 47 digital cover story, has had a whirlwind time lately. His latest album,  Songs For The Living // Songs For The Dead, zeroes in on the feelings of being an outsider, something that he has been reckoning with since he was young. Music, he says, is a place where he can be a shapeshifter — someone who is redefining the concept of a rock star with his genre-defying capabilities. “There are a lot of hurdles and barriers you’ve got to go through just by choosing to make rock music because I don’t look like a traditional rock artist,” he says. Before he became known as Kid Bookie, Tyrone Hill always felt aligned with the anti-mainstream. Growing up in inner-city London, his interests often set him apart from his peers. “I was that kid wearing mismatched Converse, a random tie with a white shirt, just being as punk as I could be,” he recalls. “In school, you get bullied for that. The uniqueness of your character, the beauty of your individuality, gets stripped away to fit in with the crowd.”… Read more »

Schön! 47 | josh heuston in LOEWE

Posted by & filed under fashion.

When chatting with Josh Heuston, one thing is for certain: he is a major science fiction fan. The actor chats with us from his London flat for his Schön! 47 cover story, where he’s dressed in knitwear by LOEWE, and is clearly relaxed and ready to discuss everything about the making of Dune: Prophecy. It’s a project that took up three years of his life and now he’s embracing the surreal feeling of returning back to some semblance of normality. “Going back to normal after filming is strange. You’re like, ‘Okay, where’s my sword and cape?’” he laughs, “But a project like this kind of ticks all the boxes.” The show is set 10,000 years before the rise of Paul Atreides, the main character from the original Dune films. This show puts the women front and centre, focusing on two sisters, played by Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, who originate the clandestine Bene Gesserit matriarchal order as they weave their webs among the great houses. Joshua Heuston stars as Constantine Corrino, whose quest for his father’s approval starkly contrasts Paul Atreides’ relationship with his own father. Naturally, Heuston is a science fiction fan. Opening up to Schön!, he says, “We’re not… Read more »
