veuve clicquot x simon porte jacquemus | la grande dame 2018

This one is for the aesthetes. Veuve Clicquot and Simon Porte Jacquemus have teamed up for a special limited edition of the champagne house’s prestige bubbly, La Grande Dame 2018. It’s a collaboration that flawlessly blends two creative worlds, giving a classic champagne a sunny, modern makeover with a very personal touch from the French designer.

Since April, the celebrations have continued – first with Veuve Clicquot’s own gastronomy project and now with this Jacquemus collaboration, which arrives just in time to toast the maison’s 250th anniversary.

The bottle itself serves as a true work of art. Draped in crisp white linen, it nods to timeless family heirlooms and an old Italian cooling ritual, where cloths were soaked, wrapped, and left to chill bottles under the summer sun. This white linen is embroidered with a hand-written champagne yellow logo – the iconic colour first introduced by Veuve Clicquot in 1877 – that looks almost surreal. Even the gift box has been reimagined, wrapped in fabric resembling rays of light, with a ribbon alternating between the two logos, reflecting Jacquemus’ innate love of objects and the “poetry of everyday life.”

At the heart of the partnership lies a shared respect for powerful women. Jacquemus was drawn to the story of Madame Clicquot, who boldly took the reins of the house in 1805, shaping its legacy in an era when few women held such influence. That narrative resonated deeply with the designer, whose own mother remains his eternal muse and whose work continually celebrates feminine strength and sensuality. “From the bright and joyful spirit to the excellence in savoir-faire, I admire and share the same values as Veuve Clicquot,” Jacquemus says. Veuve Clicquot’s CEO Jean-Marc Gallot agrees, describing the collaboration as rooted in “joy, optimism, and conviviality – the values the House has upheld for 250 years.”

As for the champagne inside, La Grande Dame 2018 is the 25th vintage of the cuvée and is an expression of centuries of craftsmanship. It’s a blend of 90% Pinot Noir, with a splash of Chardonnay, and is described as having a ‘solaire soul’ with a deep, precise style. It pours with the elegance and finesse Veuve Clicquot is known for, offering delicate floral and mineral aromatics, luminous citrus zest, and a refreshing salinity. The partnership was unveiled at the opening of New York Fashion Week and is supported by an advertising campaign that takes viewers on a poetic journey between Reims, the home of Veuve Clicquot, and the South of France, Jacquemus’ home.

But the collaboration goes beyond the bottle. The designer also created a custom-made champagne cooler, a piece he calls ‘Le Rafraîchissoir,’ which elevates champagne service into a true ritual. Inspired by Medici vases, the cooler is a two-part design with personal touches like rounded square handles and a trompe l’œil fish, a nod to his Mediterranean roots. Handcrafted in Paris by Camille Orfèvre, a master metalsmith and Meilleur Ouvrier de France, each piece requires over 40 hours of meticulous work and combines up to seven traditional crafts. Only 50 of these pieces will be made to order, and each will come with a special selection of La Grande Dame vintages, including a Jeroboam from 1990, the year Jacquemus was born.

“Beyond fashion, I have all these obsessions around design and contemporary art,” says Jacquemus. “For Veuve Clicquot, I envisioned how people would feel the warmth, craft, and emotion in the appearance of this fine La Grande Dame 2018 vintage.”

Following its launch in the US on September 9th, the collaboration will be available in the UK, Italy, and France throughout September and October. The bottle will also be available to purchase in Selfridges from 10th September.
