With beginnings in film costumes on large-scale productions and red carpet oufits for musicians and artists, Robert Kalinkin is the self-taught designer making waves in Lithuania. Juggling his roles between art director and set designer, as well as a TV stylist for over seven years, Kalinkin made the transition into ready-to-wear, offering a made-to-measure service for both men and women. Precise tailoring and complex cuts are combined, and pieces are enhanced with military details and dramatic volumes. Kalinkin explains that his work is “A contemporary collection that a strong, modern woman can wear right then and there – and feel powerful in it. It’s fierce luxury with a rebel attitude.”
He first began making seasonal collections in 2011 and has experienced success with his pop-up concepts. Stocked in his home country as well as the UK, US and China, Kalinkin’s strong, dark signature has resounding appeal over the globe.
For autumn 2015, Robert Kalinkin was inspired by the complex nature of space – its vastness and unknown aspect is reflected in dark, shimmering beads on singnature military jackets. Textures and cuts are militaristic – with intricate details comprising panels, flowing tops and black rhinestone clusters.
Here, Kalinkin showcases his couture influenced collection with photographer Gertruda Varnaite. Mesh pieces play with feminine shapes, adding a ferocious and gothic edge to military outerwear. Minute textures play with button detailing, giving a couture touch to the svelte pieces.
