With a profound desire to empower a contemporary generation of women, designer Lu Von founded her namesake brand LUVON by Liu Lu in 2008. Beijing-based, but raised in Paris and New York, the young designer left her family at 16 to venture into the world, alone and independent, ready to shake up the West. Before settling in New York to study fashion, she fought her way to the top of the system in Paris to obtain a successful career. Perfecting her craft in The Big Apple, she graduated from Parsons School of Design in 2006, with her final year collection garnering her wide interest, with a privileged spot in Saks Fifth Avenue’s window.
Leaving her career in the United States behind her, Lu Von moved to China to found LUVON by Liu Lu, her passion project. Keen to celebrate design from China, the ready-to-wear line embodies casual elegance whilst cultivating a distinctive urban feel. The accent on luxurious fabrics brings delicacy to the forefront, whilst carefully cinched volumes bring elegance and poetry to the silhouettes. Craftsmanship is at the heart of the LUVON by Liu Lu ethos, with all the excellence of Chinese savoir-faire brought into an international market.
True to her international upbringing, Lu Von’s designs curate a global understanding of women – a generation in control and leading successful lives. “Our collections are visual narratives,” she explains. “It’s about converging creative story lines seen from multiple perspectives from our daily lives – the ones of a young and active business woman who needs a wardrobe that is both sexy and casual.” The collections, she tells us, “appeal to an urban and socially conscious lifestyle.” This ethical aspect builds the core philosophy of her design process.
Focusing on a sustainable business model and crafting an empowering stance on women in the workplace, Lu Von brings emancipation into being with LUVON. Her success is testified by her large following in China, with the likes of Vogue China’s editor-in-chief Angelica Chung and actress Zhang Ziyi joining the ranks of converted followers. Sophisticated and svelte, LUVON by Liu Lu captures the essence of womanhood in an ever-evolving metropolitan society.
