Thalassic and theatrical, Jean Paul Gaultier’s nautical parade of Gallic inspired couture was an energetic vessel crewed with fury folkloric patterns and embroidery. Whispers of the northwestern French seaside permeated the visionary bluejacket opus; models sported iconic striped leggings, jumpsuits and underpinnings with elongated military trousers and layered bubble skirts that protruded like oversized docks.
Flecks of mustard swam on silk lapels, while velveteen tangerine slacks were matched with tatted boots and leather fisherman clogs. For the finale, a troop of bagpipers accompanied model Anna Cleveland down the runway in a jaw-dropping globular wedding dress that embodied a spiny sea urchin.
