design to move | 40 years of TECHNOGYM

It’s time to move. This year, during the 2024 Milan Design Week, Technogym marks its 40-year milestone with a special exhibition aptly titled “Design to Move,” showcasing 40 unique Technogym Benches designed by 40 different international artists and designers. This exhibition explores the profound relationship between design and wellness, blending style with functionality—a core principle of Technogym’s ethos since its inception.

Technogym was founded by Nerio Alessandri at the age of 22 in his family garage, driven by a passion for technology and design (TECHNO) combined with fitness (GYM). Over the years, the brand has evolved from a fitness equipment company into a comprehensive ecosystem of wellness lifestyle and a leading force in Italian design.

The “Design to Move” project transformed Technogym Benches into artistic expressions, featuring creations by prominent figures like Patricia Urquiola, Antonio Citterio, Nendo, and many others. The exhibition was visually orchestrated in collaboration with architect and designer Giulio Cappellini and curated by Bruna Roccasalva, who invited 40 artists and designers worldwide to interpret wellness through their unique perspectives.

The exhibition’s opening on April 15 coincides with Italy’s Made in Italy Day, celebrating the birth anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci, who emphasized the importance of movement in life. Nerio Alessandri, Technogym’s Founder and CEO, highlighted the pivotal role of design in their journey, transforming function into emotion and needs into aspirations. Fifteen of the exclusive Technogym Benches will be auctioned in September 2024 through Sotheby’s, while the remaining 25 will be available for purchase on Technogym.com. All proceeds from the auction and online sales will benefit UNICEF, continuing Technogym’s commitment to improving lives through wellness.

The special exhibition will showcase 40 Technogym Benches by 40 artists and designers from all over the world and will be open to the public from April 16th to 21st – 10 AM to 9 PM at Technogym Milano, Via Durini, 1.
