In a time when storytelling defines fashion’s most compelling narratives, Ralph Lauren deepens its commitment to authenticity with the second chapter of its Artist in Residence program. This collaboration introduces Zefren-M, a Diné (Navajo) multidisciplinary artist whose work intertwines the enduring traditions of Navajo culture with the heritage craftsmanship of Double RL. Rooted in history yet distinctly contemporary, the Double RL x Zefren-M capsule embodies Zefren-M’s expertise in ancient techniques and dedication to preserving cultural narratives.
“Through collaboration, our Artist in Residence program enables us to deliver a greater sense of authenticity – the stories we’re able to tell are richer and we’re able to support and elevate cultural traditions,” shares Sasha Kelly, Head of Design with Intent at Ralph Lauren.
The collection features signature Double RL pieces — workshirts, shawl cardigans, and soft accessories — reinterpreted through Zefren-M’s artistic lens. The colour palette draws from the Navajo Nation’s sweeping landscapes, while intricate patterns nod to Zefren-M’s familial weaving traditions. Stamped conchos bearing Spider Woman motifs — a homage to the revered creator and teacher of Navajo weaving — further ground the designs in cultural reverence. “Collaborating with the Double RL team allowed us to create a unique expression of our shared love of heritage and tradition – all while honoring the stories of the Navajo people,” says Zefren-M.
This partnership’s impact goes beyond fashion. A portion of sales will benefit The Lyndon Foundation, a Native-led organisation preserving heritage crafts and empowering Indigenous youth. Additionally, Zefren-M’s mentor, renowned silversmith Lyndon Tsosie, contributes exclusive handmade silver and turquoise pieces to the collaboration, further celebrating the art of Navajo silversmithing.
To bring the capsule’s story to life, a short film shot in Four Corners, New Mexico — Zefren-M’s homeland—explores their life, artistry, and the collection’s inspiration. This evocative visual narrative enriches the capsule’s debut, offering a window into its cultural resonance.
