Majur is a new face in the Brazilian music scene. A singer and songwriter who has evolved in the unfolding of Rhythm & Blues blending Rap with the waves of Soul, Trap, and Reggae, Majur identifies as non-binary and music is their biggest form of expression. During quarantine at home in São Paulo, Majur made a photoshoot with their friend Bruno, who also happens to be their stylist and roommate.
Majur sings about what is ours, what is African and what is Brazil. Listening to Majur makes me feel deeply emotional. Self-aware and courageous, Majur’s songs extoll them expressiveness and strength. Listening to them sing makes me feel how the world should be. “My body is already a political act because I’m a Black and from the LGBTQIA+ community,” Majur says.
The way they look is one made of many other dimensions. Majur’s profile is important not just for Brazil, but for the World. Trans and non-binary people are leading the future, not just for ourselves, but for everyone. Now 23 years old, Majur was born and raised on the outskirts of Salvador, Bahia, on the East coast of Brazil, and is already a big name at the Carnival of Salvador after their videos were discovered on social networks.
Less than six months after debuting with the EP Colorir in 2018, Majur was collaborating with Liniker, Pablo Vittar and Caetano Veloso, who says of Majur, “may Brazil be successful in making voices like yours echo in the world, may your elegance teach the refined manners to the somewhat awkward world we have today, and may the glow of your skin illuminate you.”
Majur’s new video ‘Andarilho’, is out now.
