Today’s Valentine’s Escape delves in to all things #ICE, in line with Schön! Issue 23. This escape takes us to Jukkasjärvi, in Northern Sweden, to a hotel unique in its genre: ICEHOTEL. The hotel covers 5,500 square metres and is constructed from 1,000 tonnes of Torne River ice and 30,000 tons of “snice”, a mixture of snow and ice. ICEHOTEL is built on a yearly basis, with each year artists creating specific parts of the hotel. With construction starting in November, and continuing through the month of December, the hotel is then open until April, at which point the structure begins to melt. Why not enjoy the incredible hotel while it lasts? Perks include a night in an ice bedroom, as well as strong chances of seeing the Northern Lights first-hand.

With its innovative design, its awe-inspiring architecture and its unique construction method, the ICEHOTEL is more than just a holiday destination, it borders on art.
