zimism

Emerging from London, ZIMISM is redefining what contemporary tailoring can feel like. Founded in 2024, the brand first caught industry attention with Beyond Binary, a debut that married fluid structure with conceptual precision, earning recognition from the British Fashion Council and SHOWstudio during London Fashion Week. Its point of view was clear from the start: tailoring that dissolves boundaries rather than reinforcing them.

Their latest collection, The Contemporary Form of a Time-Worn Soul, explores the poetic tension between structure and softness, destruction and renewal. Deconstructed silhouettes, modular details, and layered textures create garments that shift and adapt, evoking quiet strength in a fast-moving world. ZIMISM is a study in balance: craftsmanship and emotion, precision and fluidity, timelessness and reinvention.

Schön! sits down with the designers of ZIMISM to discuss the new collection, the brand, and more.

ZIMISM was founded in 2024 with a focus on fluid tailoring and conceptual clarity. How has the brand evolved since its debut collection, Beyond Binary?

ZIMISM has expanded its exploration of fluidity, subtle strength, and quiet expression. Since Beyond Binary, the brand has deepened its study of movement and adaptability, creating garments that shift with the wearer and dissolve traditional gendered boundaries. With its second collection, The Contemporary Form of a Time-Worn Soul, ZIMISM continues to embrace versatility, inclusivity, and timeless design. The brand’s evolution reflects a commitment to imagining clothing as a space for self-expression that bridges past and present through a language of understated power.

Your collaboration began in 2025 when Lorenzo joined the brand. How do your individual backgrounds and cultural perspectives shape the dialogue between East and West within your work?

Our backgrounds influence not only how we perceive and interpret culture, but also how we feel and communicate emotion. This sensitivity shapes our design process, allowing us to create garments that speak on their own while offering the wearer a tool to express individuality and presence. Through this exchange, the dialogue between East and West becomes less about contrast and more about a shared space where perspectives, behaviours, and emotional vocabularies coexist and naturally inform the work.

The new collection is described as “the contemporary form of a time-worn soul.” What emotions or stories were you aiming to capture through this poetic contrast of structure and softness?

We wanted to evoke emotions of quiet strength, introspection, and resilience. The tension between structure and softness reflects stories of memory, transformation, and vulnerability—moments where past experiences are carried forward and reimagined in the present. Each garment holds layers of narrative, offering the wearer a space to project their own emotions and shape their personal story through the clothing.

How do you think clothing can create or change the relationship between body, identity, and expression?

Clothing shapes this relationship by expanding the possibilities of how one inhabits their body. Movement, fit, and adaptability allow moments of revelation, concealment, and evolution. Our pieces are designed as living narratives that shift over time, prompting a dialogue between how the wearer sees themselves and how they choose to express that outwardly. In this sense, clothing becomes a tool for negotiating identity, presence, and transformation.

Craftsmanship is central to your brand statement. What techniques or processes are essential to achieving the quiet elegance that defines ZIMISM?

Craftsmanship at ZIMISM begins with precision and a deep awareness of how a garment responds to the body. Kinetic and adaptable pattern cutting, along with standwork that lets us experience the real-time dialogue between cloth and form, are essential parts of our process. Wearer feedback directly shapes each garment’s development. We incorporate enduring sartorial practices that provide structure and stability, ensuring that each piece can evolve with the wearer while maintaining integrity and quiet elegance.

Looking ahead, what is your vision for ZIMISM’s place in fashion in years to come?

We imagine ZIMISM as a space where clothing becomes a thoughtful and meaningful form of dialogue. Rather than prioritising scale, we aim to deepen our understanding of how garments can support personal expression. As identities and emotional landscapes shift, we want our pieces to shift with them, adapting to different ways of being seen or concealed. Our long-term vision is for ZIMISM to be recognised for its sensitivity, cultural openness, and narrative-driven craft, and for contributing to the wider conversation on how clothing shapes the relationship between body, identity, and expression.
