As luxury hospitality continues its love affair with Italy, W Hotels has found its next Mediterranean address. The Marriott-owned brand has officially opened W Sardinia – Poltu Quatu, bringing its design-led approach to one of the island’s most sought-after coastal enclaves.
Located on Sardinia’s northeastern shoreline between Porto Cervo and Baia Sardinia, the new property marks another step in W Hotels’ growing Italian footprint, following openings in W Rome and W Florence.
Set within the picturesque village of Poltu Quatu, which translates as ‘hidden port’ in Sardinia’s ancient language, the resort unfolds across a natural fjord framed by granite cliffs, Mediterranean vegetation and strikingly clear waters. Whitewashed buildings cascade down towards the marina, creating the kind of cinematic backdrop that has long drawn yachts, travellers and sun-seekers to this corner of the island.

Design plays a central role throughout the 157-room property. Interiors were created by Meyer Davis, the studio also responsible for W Rome, while architecture comes courtesy of DE.TALES. Together, they have reimagined the original vision of architect Le Suisse through a contemporary lens, balancing Sardinia’s architectural heritage with the social atmosphere that defines the W brand.
Guests are welcomed by a signature sculpture from Sardinian artist Nicola Filia before entering a series of spaces infused with local references. The hotel’s W Lounge draws inspiration from the Janas, mythical figures from Sardinian folklore said to inhabit caves across the island, while materials such as hammered metals, mirrored surfaces and Orosei marble reference the surrounding coastline.
Art continues throughout the property. Works by local creatives including Walter Usai, Fabrizio Sanna and Cinzia Murgia have been incorporated into guestrooms and suites, alongside aerial photography by Giuseppe Chironi. The result is a hotel that feels closely tied to its surroundings rather than simply borrowing their aesthetic.

Accommodation ranges from guestrooms and suites to two expansive penthouses, each complete with private pools, outdoor terraces and entertaining spaces overlooking the coastline.
Food and drink are equally central to the experience. Culinary operations are overseen by chef Antonio Bitetto, with pastry creations from award-winning pastry chef Fabrizio Fiorani. His desserts take pride of place inside the immersive Dolce Room, a dedicated space designed around interactive sweet experiences.
The resort’s flagship restaurant, ‘TANIT,’ takes its name from the ancient goddess of abundance and focuses on seafood-driven cuisine inspired by Sardinia’s maritime traditions. Marina views, sculptural interiors and organic forms reinforce the connection between menu and setting.
Elsewhere, WET Deck and the W Lounge boot up the hotel’s social life, with live music, DJ sets and aperitivo culture carrying guests from long afternoons by the pool into late evenings.

Beyond the resort itself, W Sardinia is placing considerable emphasis on local culture. Seasonal programming will bring together artisans, chefs and creatives through workshops, artist residencies and culinary experiences. Guests can join traditional pasta-making sessions, meet local ceramicists or explore the island’s rugged landscape through guided excursions.
The property’s connection to Sardinia extends offshore as well. From its private marina, guests can access bespoke boat trips aboard Fjord 41 XL speedboats, with itineraries taking in secluded coves, swimming spots and the spectacular La Maddalena Archipelago, alongside excursions to nearby Caprera.
“Italy’s cultural influence is unmatched – from design and cuisine to music and fashion – and Sardinia brings a distinct rhythm all its own,” says George Fleck, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader, W Hotels. “This opening reflects our intention to grow thoughtfully in destinations where culture leads, and where W Hotels can offer a bold, modern point of view while staying deeply connected to place.”
On an island already known for its natural beauty, the newest addition to Sardinia’s hotel landscape is betting that design, creativity and a strong sense of location remain a compelling combination.
