revisiting a classic: the little black jacket

Daphne Groeneveld

Think little black jacket, and you think Chanel. The boxy, collarless version has been synonymous with the fashion house since Coco first designed it nearly a hundred years ago. Now Chanel celebrates this most versatile and timeless of garments with a new book and exhibition, hitting the UK this Autumn.

Dakota Fanning

Elle Fanning

The Little Black Jacket was conceived by Karl Lagerfeld and ex-Vogue Paris editor Carine Roitfeld, and features over one hundred ‘friends’ of Chanel sporting the fashion staple, photographed by Mr Lagerfeld himself. From Dakota Fanning to Daphne Guinness, the models and muses, stars and starlets prove that this iconic garment can be worn by young and old alike, whatever your style. Whether it’s draped or deconstructed, dressed up or dressed down, the little black jacket is a classic that looks like it’s here to stay. As Mademoiselle Chanel rightly pointed out, “Fashion fades, only style remains the same.”

Having toured from Tokyo to New York, Taipei and Hong Kong, the exhibition finally opens at The Saatchi Gallery in London on 12th October. The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s classic revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld will be available in selected bookstores this Autumn.
