When Concept Hotel Group first unveiled Mongibello Ibiza in Santa Eulària in 2023, the property quickly became the ultimate playground for anyone looking to live out a high-gloss, 1960s Italian Riviera fantasy on Balearic soil. Having checked in during its initial 4-star era, returning earlier this month revealed a venue that has officially levelled up. The hotel has clinched its 5-star status, turning the volume all the way up on personalised indulgence without losing a single ounce of its signature, retro-cool soul.
The name ‘Mongibello’ is a slick reference to ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ and the entire aesthetic behaves like a cinematic love letter curated by CEO & Founder Diego Calvo. Calvo is a passionate, exuberant entrepreneur obsessed with mid-century retro design, drawing heavy inspiration from the sun-drenched codes of Sorrento and Havana. “Our hotels revolve around five fundamental pillars: art, design, music, fashion and cinema, with passion as the main driver,” says Calvo. “We’re constantly on the move, driven by the desire to surprise, and we continue to be excited about each project as if it were the first.”

This manifests in a layout that includes furniture pulled straight from the legendary Gio Ponti archive, most notably the sharply angled, brass-legged D.153.1 armchairs reissued by Molteni&C, sitting alongside custom-made pieces. For the last eight years, the group has also personally designed bespoke parasols for each of their properties – collaborating here with Lobster’s Day – ensuring absolute visual continuity right down to the poolside shade. Calvo’s hyper-specific design footprint is scattered across every corner, from the quirky Testa di Moro ceramic Moorish heads to the distinctive mirrors designed by Sergio Prieto inside the bedrooms. The attention to detail continues through to the tables, which are styled with authentic handcrafted Casa Maricruz tableware.
The property’s visual narrative relies heavily on its local ties, famously dedicating its 32 suites to a curated selection of 32 iconic personalities who shaped the island’s creative history – from DJs and actors to pop culture figures. Hand-painted illustrations by photographer Fernando Marroquín line the rooms, celebrating everyone from actress Ángela Molina and pilot Ángel Nieto to Pacha founder Ricardo Urgell (or in our case, DJ Pippi).
The transition to 5-star luxury brings a wave of old-world Riviera theatre to the daily schedule. Guests staying in the terrace-view suites are greeted with complimentary airport transfers, 24-hour room service and a Martini-style waiter service on their private balconies. Stepping into the coastal-facing suites feels akin to unlocking a private studio stuck in time. A powerful Marshall speaker sits ready to soundtrack the Mediterranean views, cementing the illusion that you have somehow slipped into a 1960s editorial shoot.

Mornings kick off with complimentary Saturday yoga sessions in the hotel’s gym to balance out the inevitable Balearic indulgence, although guests can also book tailored massages, facials and other targeted treatments before heading down to a dedicated breakfast corner spotlighting local Ibizan produce.
For those looking for a bit of adventure, the hotel’s relationship with the sea is getting a major upgrade via traditional boat tours and a curated menu of private day-charters. Mongibello coordinates these boat trips as fully customisable private experiences, allowing guests to pack a picnic basket of local Ibizan produce (mostly poké-based) or arrange sunset charters to explore hidden coves at their own pace.
Waiting for us this time was an 80-year-old llaüt boat named ‘Bon Dia.’ Originally used by its previous owner for tours, the classic wooden vessel is now on standby for guests. Local guide Fina Ribas Mari, collaborating with the hotel for the first time, told us that even when the Balearic weather turns a bit unpredictable, the coastal excursions remain unmatched – we even spotted a pod of dolphins navigating the wake during our trip.

Beyond the bedrooms, the hotel’s central social hub is dictated by Sorella Ristorante and Sorella Terrazza, where Sicilian Head Chef Francesco T. Leggio controls the stoves. During our stay, Leggio hosted an intimate masterclass, explaining that these culinary sessions are kept intentionally small – usually capped between 7 and 20 people – to allow for a deeper focus on regional technique. “When I think of a non-Italian restaurant, I open my eyes to the whole country,” Leggio explains, mapping out his borderless menu. “Our offer is based on their [the guests] desire.”
The final culinary direction operates as a fluid, collaborative decision between Calvo and Leggio, resulting in dishes like their signature truffle-shaved ‘La Vera Carbonara’ alongside expansive, globally-minded alternatives and fresh, casual sharing concepts for any time of day on the breezy terrace. Custom local wine and olive oil tastings are available on request, alongside relaxed Sunday aperitivo hours featuring Mediterranean-inspired cocktails. After long, sunlit lunches on the terrace, the evening rhythm shifts behind the lobby’s hidden mirror mural. The space conceals Lola’s, a speakeasy named after Ibiza’s very first nightclub, which hosts Friday night disco sessions and a high-energy Wednesday karaoke night.

The surrounding environment feels equally refreshed, thanks to a newly completed marine promenade by the Santa Eulària City Council that connects the hotel directly to the beach. The beachfront access is already fuelling plans to host custom weddings right on the sand. While the high-season programming includes poolside film screenings and first-Monday-of-the-month bingo, the low season utilises the specialised MICE room for corporate events.
The group shows no signs of slowing down either, having recently launched a fresh corporate campaign while teasing a brand-new upcoming destination: Acapulco. But for the moment, the magic remains firmly anchored in Santa Eulària. Packing your bags for Mongibello means signing up for pure, unfiltered Mediterranean hedonism, and right now, the execution is totally flawless.
