From the General Motors assembly line to the runway – but really — that’s how it happened for 27-year-old Detroit native, Jenna Klein. Klein made her way to an open call in Chicago where against less than inevitable odds, she landed a contract with DNA models. A lover of books, Barcelona, the word waffles, and her drummer husband (whom she married at 21), Klein has carved out a place in the fashion world, walking in shows for Thom Browne and Nicole Miller and filling the pages of W Magazine and Vanity Fair. Schön! chats with the 5’10” beauty below.
How did you start modeling?
I had a friend who needed a roommate in Chicago. When I visited, I attended an open call, found an agency, and decided to fully dedicate myself to modeling.
What do you find beautiful?
Everything! People, my environment, my situation, food… especially food.
Which do you prefer – breakfast, lunch, or dinner?
Tough question. I would say a tie between breakfast and dinner. I’m the type of girl who likes to have vegetables and meat for breakfast and ‘breakfast’ food for dinner. I mix it up a little bit.
What excites you more – editorial shoots or runways?
Both have their perks! For runways, there are only two fashion weeks in New York which limits the amount of time spent doing it while for editorial shoots, it could fill my schedule but keeps me on my toes as last minute bookings do happen.
What do you like to do in the Spring?
I’m semi-new to being in New York during Spring, but back at home, I love going for a walk or a hike as well as riding bicycles around. Sometimes, I just like to relax in my backyard with my cat. Basically anything that involves being outside in the sun.
Favorite city/place to be in the Spring?
Good question! Every place I’ve visited is beautiful. I definitely find beauty in European cities, Los Angeles and New York. But I’ve only been to Barcelona during Spring while working, so I would have to say my favorite is Barcelona… so far.
What do you like to do in your free time, when not modeling?
I’m usually reading. I always have a book to read. Other than that, very typical things such as hanging out with my friends – usually grabbing some lunch.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Modeling. At least part time! [Laughs] Maybe have finished my school by then, as well as having a family. Some sort of plan B, but modeling is definitely my plan A.
