louis vuitton | the tambour taiko arty automata

At Louis Vuitton, pop art has just entered its high watchmaking universe. La Fabrique du Temps has unveiled its latest creation, the Tambour Taiko Arty Automata, taking its cues from the house’s legacy of artistic collaboration to create something that feels like a mechanical daydream. Since 2021, the finely honed use of horological automata has distinguished the most exceptional creations of the Maison, appearing in milestone pieces like the Carpe Diem and the Fiery Heart to amplify technical mastery through movement.

Based in Meyrin, Switzerland, La Fabrique du Temps serves as the specialist heart of the brand’s horological output, where master watchmakers Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini have spent years turning the traditionally monochrome world of complications into a playground for the avant-garde.

Pop art has always thrived on the collision between everyday commercial symbols and high-concept expression, much in the same way the Maison has previously invited legends like Yayoi Kusama or Takashi Murakami to splash their visual language across the monogram. This latest timepiece represents a natural evolution of that disruptive spirit, moving beyond static leather into a world of gears and springs that celebrate the kitsch, the bold and the surreal.

Swirls of pastel champlevé enamel fill a dial that hosts 20 miniature elements across four separate levels, ensuring that every glance offers a different perspective on the psychedelic topography within the 42 millimetre white gold case. Real feathers have been used to create a dramatic fringe of lashes for an eye that swivels its blue iris, while a pair of bright red lips sits nearby, clenching a candy-pink heart between perfectly white teeth.

Activating the pusher at the eight o’clock position sets the entire scene into motion, triggering seven connected animations that range from twirling Monogram Flowers with diamond pistils to a playful shift where the word for love transforms into a command to get moving. Calibre LFT AU05.01 powers this miniature theatre, maintaining a 65-hour reserve while a flying tourbillon at the base carries a peace symbol bridge as a tribute to the universal love themes of the late fifties.

Artisans spent over 250 hours perfecting the twenty-three shades of enamel required for this project, navigating the temperamental nature of firing red and purple hues to achieve a surface that looks almost like a collection of soft cushions. A rainbow of 48 baguette-cut rubies and sapphires frames the bezel to mirror the tie-dye aesthetics of the dial, while the integrated lugs of the white gold case provide a smooth silhouette that flows into a vibrant red calf leather strap.

Even the rotor visible through the sapphire back has been hand-painted with an opalescent sky and miniature sunrays, showcasing a level of manual skill that makes every single component feel like a distinct piece of art.

Collectors looking to secure this timepiece will need to reach out to Louis Vuitton flagships directly as availability remains as rare as the vivid shades of red enamel that define the face. Find out more here.
