leica x lenny kravitz | leica m monochrom ‘drifter’

Legendary camera manufacturer Leica has teamed up with Lenny Kravitz’s Kravitz Design to create an “ode to touring.” On May 23, the pair unveiled its second partnership: the Leica M Monochrom ‘Drifter.’
The limited-edition camera takes Kravitz’s “rock n’ roll” nomadic nature to reflect “bold style and individual expression.”

With its ‘synthetic python’ snakeskin design and monochrom robust feel, the ‘Drifter’ is made for the road. “I’m a drifter,” the Grammy Award winner stated about the name choice in a press release. “That has been my life since I was 15-years-old; I’m always on the road.” Going for premium-quality vegan leather was Kravitz’s idea, following the advice of long-time friend and fashion designer Stella McCartney.

Despite its hefty price tag, the ‘Drifter’ is a camera and fashion collector’s dream thanks to its sepia retro esthetic and two state-of-the-art lenses — a Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH with an exclusive built-in extendable lens hood, and an APO-Summicron-M 75mm f/2 ASPH. The camera also comes with a python carry-on strap, a ‘Drifter Traveller’ bag, and two pouches and cases for both lenses to ensure maximum protection in style.

“I love the quality of the Leica’s monochrom system,” Kravitz admits. “It’s exquisite. I tend to see things in black-and-white. It looks more real to me, and timeless.”
