jacob elordi and sofia coppola | new york love story for cartier

Leave it to Cartier to make a screwdriver-locked piece of jewellery feel like the height of modern, cinematic romance. The Maison is officially welcoming Jacob Elordi as an ambassador, kicking off his tenure by reuniting him with his ‘Priscilla’ director, the effortlessly cool Sofia Coppola, for a campaign celebrating the next generation of the LOVE bracelet.

We’ve already done a deep dive on the new LOVE Unlimited bracelet – the one that’s been completely re-engineered to be flexible, a beautifully symbolic move for a love that’s anything but rigid. Now we get the visual mood board, courtesy of two people who understand atmosphere better than anyone.

Coppola, the patron saint of dreamy, melancholic New York aesthetic, chose to frame Elordi in the kind of intimate, unscripted moments that perfectly capture modern-day connection. “It’s an idea of a romantic weekend in NY with Jacob, when you’re with someone you love and you don’t want to do much but just hang out…with the skyline of NY out the window, full of possibilities,” she said.

It’s more of a natural shift that feels smart for a star who’s currently trading his ‘Saltburn’ speedos for a role as a very different kind of creature in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming ‘Frankenstein’ adaptation. This man knows how to evolve.

Elordi, who seems to be collecting iconic roles – from Elvis to a monster – is equally thrilled about the pairing. “It pays tribute to love, and the artistic spirit of New York and the movies inspired by it,” he commented. It’s hard to imagine a better fit for this campaign than an actor whose career is built on capturing complex, high-stakes relationships, whether he’s playing the King of Rock and Roll or, you know, the ‘Euphoria’ menace.

Featuring both the original locked cuff and the new, seamlessly flexible LOVE Unlimited design, this piece is a clever cultural nod. It highlights the timeless nature of commitment, while also acknowledging the evolution of how we express and experience it.

The whole campaign is so authentic that even Elordi’s own sister, photographer Isabella Elordi, was brought in to capture some behind-the-scenes stills, solidifying this as a genuine meeting of creative minds across generations.

Cartier has pulled off a neat trick: honouring its 1969 legacy while making sure its symbol of enduring love feels completely contemporary.
