Fashion has flirted with the ugly-shoe-gets-a-heel bit before and it hasn’t always ended well. Balenciaga tried it on Crocs back in 2021, slapping a stiletto onto the foam clog, and the internet spent months arguing over whether it was genius or a genuine crime against footwear (they sold out in hours regardless, because the internet contains multitudes). Havaianas has just pulled off a similar trick with a more beloved starting point – the humble, but comfy flip-flop – and this time nobody seems to be arguing at all. In fact, we’re all obsessed.
The Havaianas Kitten Heel made its debut on Studio Constance’s Spring/Summer 2027 runway during Copenhagen Fashion Week and within days it went properly viral. Twenty-five looks on the runway paired the new silhouette alongside Havaianas’ classic styles, threading the brand’s unmistakably Brazilian identity through Studio Constance’s cooler, more pared-back Scandinavian sensibility.

The shoe itself keeps Havaianas’ signature toe post construction fully intact, so nobody needs a manual to work out how it goes on. What’s new, however, is the low, asymmetric elliptical heel sitting beneath it, alongside a distinctive toe cap and, reassuringly, the same rubber insole Havaianas has built its entire reputation on since 1962. It comes in black, off-white and a gorgeous, covetable vibrant green.
“The Kitten Heel represents a new design perspective for Havaianas, while remaining true to the ease, authenticity and Brazilian spirit that have always defined the brand,” says Maria Fernanda Albuquerque, the brand’s Global Vice President of Marketing, marking Copenhagen as the opening chapter of what Havaianas is calling its ‘Taking New Heights’ movement.

Selected creators and stylists wore the Kitten Heel around the city all week, like Brazilian fashion figure Livia Nunes, who took things a step further, riding a branded Havaianas bicycle through the city with Kitten Heels swapped in for the pedals.
The week wrapped with an event at Green Island in Copenhagen Harbour, built around the concept ‘From Sea Level to New Heights,’ complete with Brazilian music, an immersive content activation and a floating customisation station run alongside Brazilian jewellery designer Alan Crocetti.
While an official release date has yet to be announced, we can certainly predict this is just the beginning for the Havaianas Kitten Heel.
