Rug Addicts is the debut collection from Foundation, an innovative manufacturer of handmade rugs combining contemporary art and design with traditional manufacturing methods. Eleven top British artists, including Anthony Burrill, Paul Insect and Si Scott, have each stepped out of their various comfort zones in street art, graphic design and illustration, to create a unique floor covering.

NATASHA LAW

Foundation is the brainchild of Mark Hanlon and Nick Hartwright, who trained in art and interior design respectively. Hartwright, whose parents both own textile and carpet businesses, has worked with hand knotted rugs for over 30 years. With Rug Addicts, they have applied fresh, British design to age-old techniques. The rugs, which take up to a year to make, are produced in a 19th Century palace in Cairo, owned by the same family for generations, resulting in high quality hand-crafted pieces.

PETE FOWLER

In addition, a portion of the profit from every rug made will be donated to Stabl Antar Dream, a charity providing education and training to children and their families in the slums of Cairo.

The charitable good cause isn’t the only excuse you need to visit this stunning collection, which will be launched at Dray Walker Gallery in the Truman Brewery, London, from 2nd to 6th November.
