essentiel antwerp | in consideration of clare

There is a compelling symmetry in watching a film about an actress navigating a carousel of identities while sitting among a group of people who, by nature, are doing the same every day. This is precisely the beautiful relatability of Essentiel Antwerp’s latest Spring campaign, a film titled Clare: To Be Considered.

The Belgian brand’s spring experience begins on 19 March, at the Botanic Sanctuary, a serene backdrop for the trip’s opening chapters. Before the screening, guests are given curated pre-movie snack boxes – a thoughtful touch that sets the tone for the immersive brand environment later in the evening.

Later, an international audience gathers at De Cinema in Antwerp for a premiere that feels more like a cinematic milestone than a traditional campaign launch. The Belgian brand, known for its playful maximalism and irreverent approach to style, has taken storytelling to cinematic heights – quite literally. Set against the sun-drenched backdrop of Los Angeles, the film follows actress Clare Gillies as she navigates multiple personas, each reflecting the collection’s exploration of identity and self-expression.

The film itself is a meditation on multiplicity – Clare becomes many versions of herself, embodying the transformative power of fashion in a way that feels both intimate and universal. She shifts seamlessly from an “optimistically naïve” former star, Rubi Mirage, to Gina Moretti, a “confident yet slightly dramatic” Italian brunette. And, last but not least, she arrives as the “flamboyant estate agent”, Lola Versailles. It is precisely this tension between the personal and the performative that makes the project so compelling.

Described as an “ode to every version of yourself”, the film received strong acclaim for its sharp satire and distinctive visual aesthetic. Fittingly, Essentiel Antwerp has never been a brand to play it safe, and this short film reinforces its commitment to pushing boundaries beyond the clothing itself. Post-screening, Essentiel Antwerp’s co-founder and Creative Director, Inge Onsea, remarks, “Wasn’t that weird, awkward and out-of-the-box? That is exactly who we are at Essentiel!”
