Yamaoka embraces errors and defects; by allowing mistakes to be a part of her work, the art welcome the viewers to look deeper in order to gain an understanding of process.  According to Yamaoka, “rubbing is a method of recording that precedes photography, and much of [her] practice has been informed by embracing or resisting photographic ideas and principles.”

With her complex ideals, Yamaoka’s skills and efforts transform the complexity of her experience into a minimalistic form. Carrie Yamaoka: Are You Experienced? at Paul Kasmin Gallery is located in Chelsea, NYC and the exhibition is open until April 12, 2014.
