burberry aw26 | daniel lee’s london night out

Old Billingsgate Market has seen its share of morning trade, but on Monday night, it became the heart of London’s after-dark culture. Creative director Daniel Lee brought the Burberry Autumn/Winter 2026 show back to the city, transforming the historic space with a massive reconstruction of Tower Bridge. Blue mesh scaffolding and resin puddles on the floor set a mood that mirrored a wet walk home from a Hackney club.

The crowd sat on black velvet bleachers as models moved to a throbbing soundtrack by FKA twigs, featuring tracks from her Grammy-winning album, ‘Eusexua.’ The iconic trench coat reigned supreme, appearing in everything from bordeaux leather to ruffled faille. The sheer volume of outerwear even prompted Stellan Skarsgård to joke from the front row that the crowd looked like a “convention of flashers.”

The audience included a patient Kate Moss, who arrived fashionably forty-five minutes late, sitting near her daughter Lila Moss and actors such as Barry Keoghan, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Brits’ producer of the year, PinkPantheress. International icons like Bright Vachirawit and Seungmin from Stray Kids brought the global buzz, while the runway saw a homecoming for Romeo Beckham and a rare, triumphant walk from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

The collection itself captured the pulse of London at 2:00 a.m. Outerwear transformed into evening attire, with fluid silk poplin and ruffled-collar trench coats made to move through a crowd. Men wore glitched classics, including overcoats and tuxedos with a relaxed fit. Leather bombers and hoodies were adapted for the evening, appearing in solid, dark colours that felt sharp and intentional.

Women’s silhouettes favoured a certain generosity in the pattern cutting, allowing satin dresses to peek out from under heavy coats. Lambskin leather gleamed with the iridescence of petrol on a rain-soaked road, while bugle-bead embroidery on trousers created the illusion of falling water. Large puffer jackets even featured embroidered maps of the River Thames. The deep plum tones seen on the runway were teased the previous evening by Teyana Taylor at the BAFTAs.

If this is what a rainy night in Hackney looks like, we might all start hoping for a downpour. Lee bottled the exact moment the city switches from business to pleasure, or as he notes: “We’re all lit by the same streetlamps.”
