wearing French Laundry Intimates + Helmut Lang
Sofia Boutella moves through life to the beat of her own rhythm, much like the roles she embodies. Never limited to just one artistic path, Boutella was telling stories through movement long before becoming a recognizable presence in Hollywood with films such as ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ and ‘The Mummy’. Taking a break from her demanding filming schedule, Boutella speaks with us for her Schön! 50 digital cover story about her beginnings, her multicultural background, and the projects that lie ahead.
Raised between Algeria and France by creative parents, Boutella grew up surrounded by art. Her father was a jazz musician, while her mother worked as an architect. “I feel very fortunate to have grown up between two cultures,” she says. “It made me more open, adaptable and accepting of differences, while also aware that there is something fundamental we all share.” Among her most treasured childhood memories are evenings spent watching the French-German television channel Arte with her family. “Being exposed to films like ‘Wings of Desire’ and ‘Le Tambour’ stayed with me. Over time, it shaped my taste and curiosity.”
