WINTER WUNDERLAND/
WUNDERKIND FALL/ WINTER 2013 from WUNDERKIND on Vimeo.
Wolfgang Joop’s WUNDERKIND collection for Autumn/Winter 2013 carries an air of freshness as it offers countryside sentiments a modern flair. Instead of a runway, models showcased Joop’s designs by walking around an amorphous, silver platform. Stage lights reflected off the set, casting each dress, jacket, pair of trousers and shoe in a pool of cool shimmer reminiscent of Winter.
The show opened with a breath of fresh air as the first model sported a softly pleated, short white dress accompanied by a wool jacket. Her hair was slicked back on the sides with a slight lift on top. Her makeup was effortlessly pretty with an almost smoky, dewy eye for some edge. The WUNDERKIND girl goes back to her roots, but does so in a cool and refreshing way.
The colour blends of dreamy white, cornflower blue and scarlet run through rustic tones of clay, concrete and khaki in wools, alpacas and cashmeres. Joop uses a special kind of fabric created from hemp and wool to smoothly fashion tough jackets on top of light-as-air dresses. The colour transitions are seamless. A pop of a red sleeve or orange short, fringed skirt brings us to the next phase of his collection highlighting pieces of fuchsia and olive. Among the delicate dresses, there are comfortably tailored separates in tweed, patterned with grey plaid. From her neck, which is embraced by a fur collar, to her feet, adorned by metallic and white leather flat ankle boots, the WUNDERKIND girl embodies elegance with an edge.
The final looks present a soft print, mysterious and fluid, almost like vapour. Upon closer examination, we can see that they are large tulips and violets on brocade. Coupled with polished overcoats, these dresses speak of a modern rural girl taking it easy on the countryside. WUNDERKIND’s vision of Winter is young and earthy, pulled together in a relaxed and refined manner.

The sophistication of pearls and crystallised jewellery meet modern, edgy, glamour in this stunning editorial photographed by the wonderful Jason Ell. Metallic reflective fabrics gleam alongside luxe fur coats and succulently textured dresses. Vibrant hair colouring provides an alternative twist to the shoot, with a palette of violet, blue and yellow; which is beautifully contrasted against hot pink lips and sunshine yellow eyes.

Celebrate the future – The Video/
Four hundred fearless futurists joined us on Tuesday evening to celebrate the 20th issue of Schön! Magazine. The forward thinking architecture of the new Ravensbourne College was a fitting setting for the launch of the Future is Now issue, which showcases all things innovative in a ferociously fresh way. As well as being the first to see Schon!’s latest offering, attendees witnessed 3-D printing in action, 3-D films and installations from the stars of the future, Ravensbourne’s Fashion Promotion students.
Guests were treated to sounds by talented DJ Janos Horvath, while enjoying delicious delicacies courtesy of the Bavarian Beerhouse and drinks from Abnormal Vodka, One Key Gin, FIJI Water, My Smoothie, Kaptive, Little Miracles, Arizona Drinks and Mad Dog Lemonade. The night was topped off with goody bags packed full of treats from our kind sponsors Dr Haushka, Lee Stafford, Vitabiotics, Conscious Skincare, Greenwood Organics, The Vintage Cosmetic Company Makie Lab, Bodhi and Bonny Confectionary, and of course, the latest issue of Schön! All in all, it was the perfect ending to London Fashion Week and the perfect start to a brave new future.
We would like to express our kind gratitude to our sponsors and supporters for this magnificent event.

WUNDERKIND/
Allow yourself to escape into the whirlwind of the Wunderkind brand, photographed by the mystical Yuval Hen. As the breeze takes you away you will be submerged into a world of sensual freedom – a world that allows a woman to express and define herself. Fluid feminine and tailored shapes in luxurious silks and cottons sweep across the pages of Schön! Magazine. The shoot encapsulates Wunderkind’s unique take on modern elegance; the unexpected play of rich texture on feather light fabrics.
The shoot is accompanied by an exclusive interview with German born designer Wolfgang Joop, the visionary behind Wunderkind. Joop was also the founder of successful brand Joop!, as well as being an illustrator, painter and writer. He talks to us about his brand vision, the relationship between fashion and art what home really means to him.

DRAWING WITH SCISSORS/
DRAWING WITH SCISSORS/ from Schön! Magazine on Vimeo.
While 3-D printing is all the rage, Schön! is always on the lookout for what’s next. Cue Jonathan Kyle Farmer, a faculty member at the prestigious Parsons School of Fashion in New York. On 9th February, Farmer hosted an exhibition at Parsons to reveal the cutting edge – in more ways than one – technique he calls 5D.
“Having always worked with both 2D and 3D processes, I made a simple calculation: 2D+3D=5D,” explains Farmer. His work began with a single scissor cut in a folded piece of white paper, which eventually turned into the 5D doll-like figures presented at the exhibition, which was aptly titled ‘Drawing with Scissors’.
Engineered from profile view with the use of dovetailing techniques, the dolls appeared to float lifelessly in space – a guise Farmer managed to create through bilateral symmetry and the notion of palindromic pattern cutting. Although constructed from mere paper, the figures held a humanistic quality, which was both compelling and disturbing. Despite their facelessness, each doll was given its own personality and brought to life by Farmer’s pioneering design technique.
A video by Jack Hu, featuring the deconstruction and revival of the figures also debuted at the event, breathing even more life into the already anthropomorphic figures. Watch an excerpt here…

TIMOTHY CUMMINGS: ESCAPING TO FANTASY/
Schön! Magazine talks to the talented self-taught visual artist Timothy Cummings. With a crayon and pencil in his hand since childhood, Cummings began to flourish as an artist when he moved to San Francisco. His highly saturated paintings focus on dreams and childhood fantasy and in this interview he talks to us about escaping reality through his art. “I like the fantasy of childhood,” he says, “being able to use your mind to create the world around you.”
♥ CHAPEL OF LOVE/

David LaChapelle is well known for his fashion photography; images that push boundaries and are able to create another world within a single photo. If you are lucky enough to be from, or in, Stockholm Valentine’s Day, a trip to Fotografiska is a must. The photography gallery is playing home to 250 pieces of LaChapelle’s work including music videos and films. It stands as the largest exhibition of his work to date and will be the first – and likely to be the last – time Fotografiska will devote the entire museum to a single artist’s work for three months.
Surprise your date by shunning the usual chocolate and roses and handing them a ticket to this instead.
