While Frieze Art Week may be over and done with, there are other shows still happening in London, and the Pearl Lam exhibition at the Porsche Design flagship store is one of them.

Curator and worldwide-renowned Chinese gallerist Pearl Lam, over the course of a prolific and diverse career, has brought many a western design artist to Shangai and has commissioned pieces which reflect their experience in Asia. The pop-up exhibition includes artists from Studio Swine, XYZ Design and Studio Reinier Bosch. Until November 7th, visitors of the Porsche Design store will have the chance to witness a glowing dressing table made out of bioresin and fake hair extensions by Studio Swine. Shining with bright red and browns, with natural materials that create an innovative layered texture, the piece reflects on the culture around China’s growing commerce in the industry of hair extensions.

A set of mirrors and a Tornado coffee table are just a few of the pieces brought to London by Studio Reinier Bosch. Working with 3D softwares and new technologies, the artists weren’t easily stopped when the project of the tornado table was thought impossible. To “be as crazy as the city” was the target when representing Shanghai. The set of mirrors are a creative play on reflections. If you find the right angle, just like Holbein’s Ambassadors, you’ll probably not find a skull, but one body, merging yours with your loved one’s.

All in the follow-up attempt by Pearl Lam to link the Western art world and China, she created the China Art Foundation. This event is a wonder for reflecting into the future collaborations we could get from both cultures.
