a colourful end to paris haute couture

The fourth and final day of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week was colourful, to say the least. From delightful spring hues and oversized flowers to masterful art pieces, this day showcased the creations of Serkan Cura, Zuhair Murad, and Ralph & Russo.

Serkan Cura’s collection, “Les Naufragés de mes mondes,” showcased a large range of exotic plumed muses. Set in the Théâtre Déjazet, Cura’s show was not an ordinary défilé; it was an adventure. Smoke filled the stage as the first model appeared in a desert sand corset with layers of loose strands, as if she had been washed ashore. Cura accentuated fine waists and shapely hips with structural bodices and corsets. A seashell bustier, a coral corset, and sea urchin accessories were seen. With the support of Swarovski, Cura’s masterpieces truly shined bright.

Lebanese fashion designer Zuhair Murad might give Elie Saab a run for his money. Murad’s collection, “Garden of Eden,” illustrates the wonder and beauty that comes with spring. Delicate lace dresses were unified with a simple gold leaf belt. The silhouette was long and flowing. Soft embroidery dominated this collection, creating an innocent and idyllic portrait of a woman.  Murad plays with transparency and tulle, along with sweet floral appliqués.

Ralph & Russo

Ralph & Russo

Husband and wife team Ralph & Russo joins the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, making this the first British label in almost a century to show on the official Paris Haute Couture Week schedule. For Spring/Summer 2014, Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo traveled back to the golden age of haute couture where women dripped with allure and timeless class. Along with elegant ball gowns, the collection explored the theme of French gardens as models wore refined jackets and 50s-shaped pencil skirts. Silk crêpe flower corsages accentuated shoulders. Colours ranged from sky blue to passionate red. One impressive raspberry dress was adorned with a large bow, as if the garment were a gift, waiting to be unwrapped by our eyes. Ralph & Russo, representing Great Britain, brought Paris Haute Couture Week to a fabulous close. We at Schön! couldn’t be prouder.
