¡Viva España!/

Raoul Keil, our editor-in-chief of Schön!, has just returned from Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid. The experience was overwhelmingly positive. Madrid houses a small but incredibly enthusiastic and supportive fashion community. Supported by wonderful celebrations and innovative PRs, Madrid put on a fashion week that felt like a true event rather than a business tool.

Delpozo Spring / Summer 2013

Delpozo Spring / Summer 2013

The week kicked off on 30th of August with DELPOZO, a Spanish heritage brand founded in 1973 and newly under the creative control of Josep Font. Font showed his womenswear in a gorgeous plaza, the perfect setting. His clothes were feminine, structural yet ephemeral, with lace and prim collars abounding. You can see the collection at the brand’s website. @ http://www.delpozo.com

Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada

Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada Spring / Summer 2013

The highlight of the second day was Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, whose clothes were conceptual and irreverent. Models wore love heart mask/hat combinations and at least one sported a birdcage around her waist. Other pieces included shape garments and squiggle bras, all in an electric colour pallet. You can see shots of her collection here.

Davidelfin showed the next day, and the brand’s combined menswear and womenswear collection proved to be a major high point of the week. It was a structured affair, a perfectly tailored parade of illusions. What appears to be a skirt and a top is a dress, connected by a gleaming zipper down the back; a standard man’s shirt sports an open back.

Also featured were jumpsuits (again with those very silver zippers) and the shortest shorts imaginable paired with those open-back shirts on both men and women. You can view the collection and a video here.

Ana Locking Spring/Summer 2013

Ana Locking, a line designed by Ana González, showed their “Time Capsule” collection on the fourth day. Gonzáles’ work was a fascinating remix of traditional silhouettes; a drop-crotch here and a rounded shoulder there transforming familiar pieces into something unexpected with a dash of art-deco madness.

Ion Fiz Spring / Summer 2013

Another highlight of the fourth day was Ion Fiz, whose menswear and womenswear relied on graphics to give classic shapes a modern pop. You can see the Ana Locking collection here and Ion Fizz’s collection here.

Madrid Fashion Week was a refreshing and exciting reminder of what an amazingly supportive community fashion can bring together (and how spectacularly well-dressed that community can be). Schön! would like to thank the city of Madrid for being so welcoming. For more information about Mercedes-Benz Madrid Fashion Week visit their website. http://www.mercedesbenzfashionweekmadrid.com
